SCHROON LAKE — A three-car collision involving a marked State Police vehicle killed one person and injured a trooper during a traffic stop on Interstate 87 northbound Oct. 3.
The crash occurred at approximately 3:35 p.m. in the town of Schroon Lake, Essex County.
An investigation determined that a State Police member operating a marked Chevrolet Tahoe had initiated a traffic stop on a white 2011 Mercedes 350 after observing a vehicle and traffic law violation.
Both vehicles were stopped on the northbound shoulder of Interstate 87 with the patrol vehicle’s emergency lights activated.
While the trooper was conducting the traffic stop, a 2015 Ford Transit traveling northbound struck the rear of the marked State Police vehicle, causing a multi-vehicle collision.
The operator of the Mercedes, James J. Shinn, and passenger Mayne M. Hackett, were uninjured, though their vehicle sustained minor damage.
The State Police member was transported to Glens Falls Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The operator of the Ford Transit was identified as Brian M. Daniloski, age 58, of Baltimore, Maryland.
Daniloski was transported to Glens Falls Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
His passenger, Anne F. Everton, age 43, also of Baltimore, Maryland, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The incident remains under active investigation by the New York State Police.
