FAIR HAVEN — A 52-year-old woman faces multiple charges after allegedly stealing credit cards and using them dozens of times throughout Rutland County.
Vermont State Police say Heidi Ward of Fair Haven acquired various credit cards belonging to 66-year-old Barry Book of Benson without his permission between Aug. 12 and Aug. 23.
Ward used the cards to send herself money through Cash App and made purchases at various locations throughout Rutland County on 33 different occasions, according to police.
The investigation began Aug. 25 at approximately 6:05 p.m. when troopers from the Vermont State Police Rutland Barracks were notified of a possible burglary in West Haven.
When confronted by police, Ward provided a sworn statement in which she lied about the events, troopers said.
Ward was located at her residence Sept. 15, where troopers found some of the merchandise that was purchased inside her home.
She was taken into custody, transported to the Rutland Barracks for processing, issued a criminal citation, and released.
Ward faces 33 counts of identity theft, 33 counts of credit card fraud, and one count of providing false information to police.
