Richford dog fatally shot on Route 105

RICHFORD — Vermont State Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a dog on Route 105 on Oct. 1.

Troopers from the St. Albans barracks responded to the area of Route 105 and Magoon Road at approximately 7:30 p.m. for a report of a dog that had been shot and killed.

The incident occurred at approximately 5 p.m., according to police.

The dog’s owner, Nicholas Weatherby, 28, of Richford, told police his black German Shepherd was in a nearby field when he heard a single gunshot.

Shortly after hearing the gunshot, the dog ran back to Weatherby’s residence with a fatal gunshot wound to its snout.

Investigation and witness statements revealed that a male was seen walking from the area where the incident took place following the gunshot.

The male was observed getting into a white full-sized pickup truck and traveling toward Richford.

Police said it is unknown if this was an intentional or accidental act.
