Man arrested on drug charges after traffic stop in Olean

OLEAN — A 32-year-old Delevan man was arrested on drug charges after a traffic stop early Oct. 2.

Corey J. Vail was taken into custody at approximately 3:27 a.m. following a traffic stop on S. 7th Street in Olean for multiple vehicle and traffic law violations, according to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office.

Prior to the traffic stop, Vail was observed throwing an item out of the driver’s window.

An investigation determined that Vail threw a baggie containing a quantity of suspected methamphetamine out of his window, which was located on the corner of S. 7th Street and W. State Street.

K9 Lex was deployed to perform a vehicle search and positively alerted to the odor of narcotics coming from a black backpack on the passenger seat.

A subsequent vehicle search located more suspected methamphetamine, a scale with residue and packaging materials.

Vail was transported to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office Olean Substation for processing.

He was processed and released on an appearance ticket and multiple uniform traffic tickets for criminal possession of a controlled substance 4th degree, tampering with physical evidence, criminally using drug paraphernalia 2nd degree for scales and packaging, failure to stop at a stop sign, inadequate headlights, inadequate tail light and muffler/exhaust violation.

Vail is due in Olean City Court at a later date.
