SARATOGA SPRINGS — A 54-year-old Amsterdam man has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery that occurred on the west side of the city last month.
Jorge Gonzalez was taken into custody Tuesday at approximately 4 p.m. at his residence in Amsterdam, according to the Saratoga Springs Police Department.
The robbery occurred in the early morning hours of Sept. 21 at approximately 1:40 a.m. in the area of Grand Avenue.
According to police, the victim was walking in the area when he was approached from behind by an unknown male suspect.
The suspect demanded money and displayed what appeared to be a black handgun.
A brief struggle ensued before the victim was able to flee the scene.
No injuries were reported.
Investigators from the Criminal Investigations Unit initiated an investigation and identified a suspect through various investigative techniques.
Gonzalez has been charged with robbery in the first degree, a Class B felony under New York State Penal Law.
He was arraigned in City Court and remanded to the custody of the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office on $75,000 cash bond, $150,000 insurance bond, and $750,000 partial secured bond.
Gonzalez has a court date scheduled for Oct. 2 at 9 a.m. in City Court.
The Saratoga Springs Police Department thanked the Amsterdam Police Department for their assistance in the investigation.
