Maine fire marshal seeks help in stolen car arson case

LEVANT — The Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office is requesting public assistance in an ongoing investigation involving a stolen vehicle that was later found burned in a wildland fire.

On Sept. 29 between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m., a light yellow 1970 Buick was stolen from 55 Pember Road in Levant.

Shortly after 6 p.m., firefighters responded to a wildland fire on Fush Road in Ripley.

While extinguishing the fire, crews located the stolen Buick burned on the property.

The case is being investigated as a vehicle theft connected to an arson.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have seen the light yellow 1970 Buick between Levant and Ripley on Sept. 29 between approximately 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to contact authorities.

Officials are requesting the public check doorbell cameras, security cameras, dashcams or business surveillance footage from that date.

Information being sought includes partial license plate numbers, direction of travel, passengers or the time the vehicle was spotted.
