WESTON — A 23-year-old Miami man was arrested Sept. 30 after allegedly impersonating a bank agent in an elaborate fraud scheme targeting a Weston resident.

Bryan Martinez was taken into custody at approximately 10:30 a.m. following a foot pursuit, according to the Weston Police Department.

Police said Martinez allegedly contacted the victim under the pretense of investigating fraudulent activity on their bank accounts.

He instructed the victim to withdraw large sums of money and either deposit them into unknown accounts or prepare the funds for pickup, police said.

One pickup was made earlier in the week and a second was scheduled for Sept. 30.

Weston officers were present at the victim’s residence at the time of the second pickup.

Martinez fled on foot upon seeing the officers, police said.

He was located near a residence on North Avenue with assistance from multiple units, including K-9 Knox and the Waltham Police Drone Unit.

During a search incident to arrest, Martinez had in his possession a Florida driver’s license belonging to another individual, police said.

Martinez was arraigned in Waltham District Court on Wednesday morning and released on $2,500 bail.

He faces two counts of conspiracy to commit larceny by false pretense on a person over 60 years of age, two counts of attempted larceny by false pretense on a person over 60 years of age, and possession of a false or stolen identification document.

The investigation remains active, and the Weston Police Department is coordinating with federal partners to determine whether additional suspects or victims may be involved.
