TURNER — An Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Deputy observed a suspicious vehicle with apparent motor vehicle defects traveling on Conant Road at approximately 1:15 a.m. Tuesday.
A traffic stop was initiated on Airport Road.
The driver, later identified as Daniel M. Jackson, 44, initially provided false identification and became confrontational with deputies on scene.
A patrol supervisor arrived to assist.
As officers spoke with Jackson through the vehicle window, they noted signs of impairment from illicit drug use.
Despite being given multiple lawful commands to exit the vehicle, Jackson refused to comply.
Jackson then attempted to flee the stop and intentionally rammed two Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office cruisers.
A vehicle pursuit ensued through the outer roads of Turner, Auburn, and Lewiston.
The pursuit ended when tire deflation devices were deployed, successfully disabling Jackson’s vehicle.
Due to the early hour, there was minimal public traffic and no civilian injuries were reported.
After disabling his vehicle, Jackson attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended by deputies, with assistance from the Lewiston Police Department.
He was transported to a local hospital for medical clearance, where he admitted to ingesting a significant amount of illicit drugs prior to the traffic stop.
While being transported to Androscoggin County Jail, Jackson broke a cruiser window, attempting to escape a second time.
He was apprehended again in the jail parking lot.
Jackson is currently being held without bail and faces charges including operating without a license, three counts of aggravated criminal mischief, refusing to submit to arrest, eluding an officer, driving to endanger, reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, criminal speed, failing to provide correct name and date of birth, escape, and eight counts of violating conditions of release.
