Springfield man arrested after cutting ankle bracelet, charged in March shooting

SPRINGFIELD — Members of the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit, Springfield Police Warrant Apprehension Unit, Springfield Police K9 Unit, Springfield Police Officers assigned to Squad B, Springfield Police Metro Unit, United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force, Massachusetts State Police VFAS and Hampden County Sheriff’s Department arrested 19-year-old Malachi Williams on Monday at approximately 1:55 p.m. in connection with three outstanding warrants.

Around 1:40 p.m., detectives and a trooper observed Williams on the 0-100 block of Pearl Street walking towards Salem Street and eventually Elliot Street.

At the sight of police presence, Williams ran into a building and entered an unoccupied apartment where detectives and officers located him.

Williams was placed under arrest.

One arrest warrant stems from an incident on March 25 when officers responded to a shooting outside Union Station and located two gunshot victims who were suffering from non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers arrested two juveniles in connection with the shooting and recovered an illegal firearm.

Officers continued to investigate this incident and applied and were granted a warrant for Williams’ arrest in connection with this March shooting incident.

On July 12, officers arrested Williams in connection with a carjacking and crash into two homes on Eastern Avenue.

Officers seized a fully automatic Ghost Gun with a sear-selector switch, making the firearm a fully automatic machine gun.

Williams was released on bail with the condition that he wear a GPS ankle bracelet, which he cut off, leading to an arrest warrant being issued in connection with this July incident.

Williams also had a default warrant out of Chicopee District Court.

Williams will also be charged with breaking and entering for going into an unoccupied Elliot Street apartment on Monday.

Williams is charged with attempted assault and battery with a firearm, carrying a firearm without a license, conspiracy, receiving a stolen motor vehicle, making a firearm without a serial number, possession of a large capacity firearm during the commission of a felony, improper storage of a large capacity firearm near a minor, possession of a machine gun, armed and masked robbery, firearm-armed carjacking, vandalizing property, larceny under $1,200, assault and battery on a pregnant victim, assault and battery on a family/household member and breaking and entering.
