MONTPELIER — A 29-year-old woman was arrested Monday evening on charges of first-degree aggravated domestic assault after allegedly repeatedly striking a family member.
Erica Sarpong was taken into custody after fleeing an apartment building where she had been wandering on the third floor, according to a Montpelier Police Department press release.
The victim came to the police department at approximately 5:44 p.m. Monday to report being assaulted by a family member.
Officers determined through their investigation that the victim was repeatedly struck, causing multiple injuries.
Initial attempts to locate Sarpong were unsuccessful, police said.
Later that evening, police received information that Sarpong had returned to the victim’s apartment building.
Officers apprehended Sarpong a short distance away after she fled the building.
A superior court judge ordered Sarpong to be held without bail pending her arraignment.
Sarpong is scheduled to appear in Washington County Superior Court, Criminal Division, at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.
