Massachusetts man arrested after high-speed chase through Merrimack

MERRIMACK — A Massachusetts man was arrested Tuesday following a high-speed pursuit that began in Lowell, Massachusetts, and ended with a crash in Merrimack.

Dominick Howard, 20, of East Wareham, Massachusetts, was taken into custody around 9 a.m. after initially fleeing on foot from the crash scene.

The pursuit began just before 4 a.m. Tuesday when Lowell Police Department officers chased Howard’s 2006 Ford Escape on Route 3 northbound toward New Hampshire.

Lowell police informed New Hampshire State Police that Howard had an active felony warrant in Massachusetts.

State troopers from Troop B took over the pursuit as Howard crossed into New Hampshire near Exit 6 on the F.E. Everett Turnpike in Nashua.

Howard continued northbound, reaching speeds of 100 mph.

Troopers successfully deployed a tire deflation device near mile marker 9.8.

Howard’s vehicle continued northbound before losing a tire and going off the right side of the road near mile marker 12.2 in Merrimack.

Following the crash, troopers took three passengers into custody while Howard fled into a nearby wooded area.

Troopers and Merrimack Police Department officers conducted an immediate search but were unable to locate Howard.

Howard was spotted back near the crash scene around 9 a.m. and was arrested with assistance from Merrimack police.

Howard has been charged with disobeying a police officer, reckless conduct, resisting arrest, reckless operation, and as a fugitive from justice.

Two passengers were released without charges.

A third passenger, a juvenile, was charged with resisting arrest.

Howard is scheduled to appear in Merrimack District Court Wednesday at 10 a.m.
