Windsor Locks man arrested in drive-by shooting that struck occupied home

WINDSOR LOCKS — A Hartford man has been arrested in connection with a drive-by shooting that struck an occupied home in December.

Jose Morales was taken into custody Sept. 25 on charges stemming from the Dec. 12 shooting at 245 South Elm Street, according to Windsor Locks police.

The residence was struck by gunfire while occupied by two adults and two small children, police said.

No injuries were reported, and the residents had no relationship with the shooter, according to authorities.

Officers recovered a bullet projectile from inside the home.

Police identified a suspect vehicle and located it on Vine Street in Hartford.

Detective Heriberto Resto used video evidence, search warrants and interviews to identify Morales as a suspect and obtain an arrest warrant.

Detectives received information about Morales’ location and arrested him without incident, police said.

Morales is a convicted felon with prior firearms offenses, according to police.

He was charged with unlawful discharge of a firearm, criminal possession of a pistol/revolver, weapons in a motor vehicle, four counts of reckless endangerment, risk of injury to a minor, second-degree breach of peace and associated motor vehicle charges.

Morales was held on $600,000 bond and is scheduled for arraignment Sept. 29.
