SOUTHPORT — The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 48-year-old Towanda, Pennsylvania man on charges of attempted grand larceny in the third degree, a Class E felony.

Brian J. Rought was arrested in connection with an incident that occurred July 12, 2023, at approximately 9:48 a.m. at Glider City Cycles in Southport.

Deputies from the Road Patrol Division were dispatched to the business for a report of larceny.

The Criminal Investigations Division assisted with the investigation.

Investigators determined that Rought had purchased two motorcycles valued at $11,388.

Rought provided Glider City Cycles with a signed check for the full amount of the motorcycles.

The investigation revealed that the account used for the personal check contained only $1.73, causing the check to bounce due to insufficient funds.

Rought was arrested after his release from Pennsylvania State Prison.

He was issued an appearance ticket to appear in Southport Town Court at a later date.

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Probation Department assisted the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office with the case.
