HOPKINTON — A man was arrested after leading police on a high-speed chase and subsequently charged with operating under the influence and drug possession, according to the Hopkinton Police Department.
Officer Cann observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on West Main Street at 11:35 p.m. Sept. 27.
Radar registered the vehicle traveling as high as 94 mph in a 45 mph zone.
Officer Cann activated her emergency lights and attempted to initiate a traffic stop.
The vehicle continued down West Main Street and appeared to turn down Downey Street to avoid Officer Cann.
Officer Creedon and Sergeant Normandin arrived to assist and began searching the immediate area for the vehicle.
The vehicle was located on Hayward Street and came to a stop.
Officers made contact with the operator and had him step out of the vehicle.
Officers detected a strong odor of alcohol from the operator.
Field sobriety tests were administered and the operator blew into a portable breath test.
He was taken into custody without incident.
While officers were conducting an inventory of personal property, they located medications that the operator did not have prescriptions for.
The operator is being charged with possession of Class B drugs, possession of Class E drugs, operating under the influence of drugs, operating under the influence of liquor, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop for police and speeding.
