SPRINGFIELD — A Springfield Police Auto-Theft Detective investigation under the direction of Captain Trent Duda leads to the arrest of an armed carjacking suspect.
On Sunday, Sept. 21 at approximately 3 p.m., officers responded to the 1100 block of Wilbraham Road for an armed carjacking.
Officers received information that the driver was inside the convenience store when she saw a family member run out of their car.
The teenage passenger was inside the car when two suspects approached her and allegedly forced her out of the car at gunpoint.
The two suspects then drove off in the stolen vehicle.
The stolen vehicle was recovered two days later in Chicopee.
Members of the Springfield Police Detective Auto-Theft Unit began investigating.
Detectives and officers identified one of the suspects as a known 15-year-old male.
SPD Detectives applied for and were granted a warrant for his arrest.
Around 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 25, SPD Detectives arrested the suspect on Lincoln Street.
At the time of his arrest, the 15-year-old was equipped with an ankle monitor due to his prior incidents.
This juvenile has now been arrested six times in the past 18 months for various warrants and stolen motor vehicle charges.
Due to his age, the suspect’s name, booking photo and specific charges will not be released.
