RUTLAND — Police have solved a 2021 breaking and entering case through DNA evidence that linked a convicted burglar to the crime.

On Oct. 18, 2021, Rutland Police responded to an address on Emerald Road for a past breaking and entering.

Officers observed signs of forced entry, including an open porch window and pry marks on the garage door.

The homeowner reported multiple items stolen, including jewelry, electronics, and personal property.

A Rutland Police detective processed the scene and noted the case was consistent with similar burglaries in the region.

As part of the evidence collection process, potential DNA was collected from a pry bar left at the scene and submitted to the CODIS system.

Recently, a CODIS forensic hit linked the DNA sample to Oliver A. Ramos of Worcester, who was previously convicted of burglary in Connecticut.

The Massachusetts State Police Crime Lab confirmed the match, connecting Ramos to several burglaries in Central Massachusetts.

Based on this forensic evidence, Ramos has been charged with breaking and entering into a dwelling daytime for felony.

Ramos is currently in the custody of the Massachusetts Department of Correction.
