AUBURN — Two Webster men were arrested on firearms charges after a traffic stop Tuesday evening on Southbridge Street.

Lt. Michael Tarckini Jr. of the Auburn Police Department stopped a vehicle around 7:30 p.m. Sept. 23 after noticing it was driving without headlights.

As Tarckini approached the vehicle, one of the occupants began reaching toward the floorboard.

Fearing the person was reaching for a weapon, Tarckini ordered them to stop and called for backup.

Officers David Ljunggren, Matthew Laskes and Det. Tyler Bresse arrived to assist.

After removing the occupants from the vehicle, Tarckini searched the area where they had been reaching and found a loaded Glock handgun with no serial number and a 30-round magazine.

Neither occupant had the legal right to possess a firearm, police said.

Jamel Martinez, 21, and Luis Martinez, 18, both of Webster, were arrested and charged with carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of a large capacity feeding device, receiving an untraceable firearm, improper storage of a firearm and possession of ammunition without an FID.

Both men were arraigned Wednesday in Worcester District Court.

Jamel Martinez is being held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing.

Luis Martinez was released on $500 bail.
