Newfane man arrested on domestic assault, DUI charges

NEWFANE — Vermont State Police arrested a 59-year-old Springfield man on charges of first-degree aggravated domestic assault and driving under the influence following a welfare check at a campground Tuesday night.

Police received a request for a welfare check at Kenolie Campground in Newfane at approximately 8:42 p.m. on Sept. 24.

Investigation revealed that James Foster Jr. attempted to cause serious bodily injury or death to a family member, according to police.

Foster was later located in Springfield, where the responding trooper detected signs of impairment.

Foster was arrested and transported to the Westminster State Police Barracks for processing.

He was issued a citation to appear before the Vermont Superior Court – Windham Criminal Division on Sept. 25 at 12:30 p.m., and a citation to appear before the Vermont Superior Court – Windsor Criminal Division on Oct. 14 at 8:30 a.m.

Foster was lodged at Southern State Correctional Facility on $500 bail.

Vermont State Police does not release the names of victims of domestic violence.
