Geneva man arrested on sexual abuse charges involving juvenile at residential facility

AUBURN — The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation announced the arrest of Marvin A. Edmonds, age 51, of Geneva, following an investigation into allegations of inappropriate conduct involving a juvenile resident at the Harriet Tubman Residential Center in the town of Sennett, Cayuga County.

The investigation determined that while employed as a staff member at the facility, Edmonds engaged in an inappropriate interaction with a juvenile resident.

The allegations were initially reported to the Justice Center, which immediately referred the case to the New York State Police for criminal investigation.

On Sept. 24, Edmonds was taken into custody without incident at his residence in Geneva.

He was transported to State Police Auburn, where he was processed and subsequently arraigned at Cayuga County Centralized Arraignment Part.

Edmonds was charged with sexual abuse in the second degree, a misdemeanor, and official misconduct for a public servant performing an illegal function, also a misdemeanor.

The New York State Police were assisted by the New York State Justice Center and staff from the Harriet Tubman Residential Center during this investigation.

Edmonds was transported to Cayuga County Jail for arraignment.

The investigation is ongoing.
