Homer man charged with DWI, child endangerment

HOMER — A 40-year-old man was arrested on drunken driving charges after a traffic stop with a juvenile in his vehicle Sept. 20.

Luke S. Hopkins of Poverty Lane in the Town of Summerhill was stopped by a Cortland County Sheriff’s Office deputy at approximately 9:07 p.m. on State Route 41A after the officer observed vehicle and traffic law violations.

Deputies determined Hopkins was operating the vehicle while intoxicated with a juvenile passenger.

Hopkins was arrested at 9:39 p.m. and charged with driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol content of .08% or more, and endangering the welfare of a child, all misdemeanors.

He was also cited for insufficient turn signal and moving from a lane unsafely, both infractions.

Hopkins was transported to the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office where he was processed and released on appearance tickets.

He is scheduled to appear for arraignment in Town of Homer Court on Oct. 7 at 4:00 p.m.
