WORCESTER — Police arrested a man early Monday after finding a loaded firearm during a traffic stop.
Officers observed a vehicle without a valid inspection sticker at approximately 2:28 a.m. on Sept. 22 and conducted a stop at the intersection of Hollis and Gardner Streets.
While speaking with the male operator and a male passenger, officers observed an open container of alcohol inside the vehicle.
The passenger provided officers with a false name before they confirmed his identity as Alex Sanchez, 24.
Both men were ordered to exit the vehicle and were searched for weapons.
A loaded gun was found in Sanchez’s waistband, and officers confirmed he did not possess a license to carry.
The Worcester Police Department’s Crime Scene Unit took possession of the firearm.
Sanchez was charged with possession of a firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without a license, possession of a large capacity firearm, possession of a large capacity feeding device, carrying a loaded firearm without a license and possession of an open container of alcohol.
The driver was issued a citation for the open container and for operating an uninspected motor vehicle.
