VERNON — Vernon police arrested a man following a domestic disturbance at a local motel that led to a vehicle chase and search involving a Connecticut State Police K9 unit.
Officers responded to the Vernon Motel on Sept. 15 for a reported domestic disturbance.
Upon arrival, officers observed a male and female engaged in a heated altercation while entering a pickup truck.
An officer positioned himself at the motel exit with a tire deflation device, anticipating the vehicle might flee.
The truck sped off, climbing a nearby grassy embankment to avoid the exit.
The officer successfully deployed spike strips, disabling the vehicle a short distance away.
The vehicle was unregistered and uninsured, and was displaying a misused license plate, according to police.
The female victim, who had been assaulted inside the motel, escaped safely.
The male suspect fled into nearby woods.
Vernon police officers, Connecticut State Police Trooper Nisbet and his K9 partner Apollo, along with other state police units, located the suspect hiding in thick brush.
The suspect was taken into custody.
Investigation revealed the suspect had six active no-contact protective orders with the victim and had assaulted her before police arrived.
