Springfield police arrest man, seize 2 illegal firearms

SPRINGFIELD — Members of the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit seized two illegal firearms and arrested a 20-year-old man Thursday in connection with a firearms investigation.

Samuel Irenes-Colon was arrested at approximately 12:05 p.m. during the execution of a search warrant at his home on the 400 block of Canon Circle.

The Firearms Investigation Unit, under the direction of Sergeant David Robillard, worked with members of the Hampden County Sheriff’s Department during the operation.

Detectives had been investigating Irenes-Colon for several months for the illegal possession of a firearm.

Two other subjects who were at the home were detained and later released.

During the search, detectives recovered two illegal firearms.

One firearm had an obliterated serial number.

The second firearm was loaded with 29 rounds of ammunition, making it a large capacity firearm.

Additional ammunition was also recovered during the search.

Irenes-Colon of Springfield is charged with possession of a firearm without an FID card, possession of a large capacity firearm, possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number, improper storage of a firearm, improper storage of a large capacity firearm and possession of ammunition without an FID card.
