NORWOOD — A 55-year-old Stockholm man was arrested Thursday after police say he trespassed on a neighbor’s property and assaulted the homeowner during a dispute over a flag.
Timothy McGill is accused of going onto the victim’s property on South Main Street and demanding that the victim remove a flag from a pole, according to Norwood Village Police.
When the victim refused to remove the flag, McGill attempted to take the flag down himself, and a fight ensued, police said.
The victim displayed a handgun in defense before McGill finally left the property, according to police.
McGill is charged with trespass and the misdemeanors of assault in the third degree and attempted petit larceny.
He voluntarily turned himself in to police and was arraigned in the Town of Norfolk, where he was released on his own recognizance.
McGill will answer the charges in the Town of Potsdam.
An order of protection was issued for the victim.
The investigation is ongoing and further charges are possible, police said.
