MONTPELIER — A 28-year-old transient was charged with three felony counts of assault of a protected professional after allegedly kicking police officers and spitting on a hospital employee Tuesday evening.

Ruth Flint was also charged with two misdemeanor counts of violation of conditions of release and one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct.

Montpelier Police Department officers responded to a report of a large fight in the back parking lot of 100 State Street at approximately 8:18 p.m. Sept. 17.

During the investigation, officers met with Flint, who was allegedly involved in the disturbance.

While officers attempted to help Flint stand up at her request, she began kicking the officers while acting in a belligerent manner, police said.

Flint has active, court-ordered conditions of release prohibiting her from engaging in violent, threatening or tumultuous behavior.

She was taken into custody for assaulting and threatening two Montpelier police officers.

Flint was transported to Central Vermont Medical Center for a self-inflicted head injury.

While at the hospital, Flint assaulted a contracted employee by spitting on them, police said.

She was ultimately transported to the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility for detoxification due to her level of intoxication.

The three felony offenses of assault of a protected professional result from Flint having multiple prior offenses for assaulting protected professionals.

Flint was ordered to appear in Washington County Superior Court, Criminal Division, on Sept. 18 at 12:30 p.m.
