Watervliet police conduct joint operation with 142 traffic stops, 3 arrests

WATERVLIET — The Watervliet Police Department partnered with the Albany County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Police in a joint anti-crime detail on Sept. 17.

The operation was conducted between 3 p.m. and 11 p.m. and focused on crime prevention and traffic enforcement within the City of Watervliet.

Over the course of the detail, officers conducted 142 traffic stops, resulting in 33 traffic citations and three arrests, including one felony arrest.

A subject was taken into custody for Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument in the First Degree after being found in possession of $2,720 in counterfeit U.S. currency.

A 14-year-old from the City of Albany was located in possession of a flare gun and two boxes of flares.

Appropriate action was taken in coordination with juvenile procedures.

Two additional arrests were made for various violations of law relating to drug offenses.

Chief of Police William M. Rice stated the operation highlights the importance of strong partnerships between local, county, and state law enforcement agencies.

“By working together, we are able to enhance safety, deter crime, and ensure the residents of Watervliet and surrounding communities are protected,” Rice said.

The Watervliet Police Department extends its gratitude to Mayor Charles Patricelli and the members of the Watervliet City Council for their continued support of collaborative initiatives.

The department also thanks the Albany County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Police for their cooperation and commitment to public safety.

Additional joint operations are planned in the future as part of ongoing efforts to reduce crime and maintain a safe community.
