MONTPELIER — A 31-year-old Barre man has confessed to stealing a vehicle from a River Street business, police said.

Jonathan Phillips admitted his involvement in the theft during a meeting with a Montpelier Police officer on Sept. 17.

The vehicle was reported stolen on the morning of Sept. 2, though evidence indicated it had been taken on Sept. 1.

Police recovered the vehicle that evening in Hartford, Connecticut, where two Washington County individuals were arrested on various criminal charges related to the recovery.

Through investigation, police determined Phillips was responsible for the initial theft, while different individuals were found possessing the vehicle in Connecticut.

He faces charges of aggravated operation of a motor vehicle without owner’s consent, unlawful trespass into a motor vehicle, grand larceny and possession of stolen property.
