Horseheads man charged with murder in death of 3-year-old

ELMIRA — New York State Police arrested a 27-year-old Horseheads man in connection with the death of a 3-year-old boy who was brought to a local hospital with suspicious injuries.

Christopher M. Woods was charged with second-degree murder, a felony, following an investigation into the death of Finn Hopkins on Sept. 15.

State police were contacted by Chemung County Child Protective Services at approximately 3:53 p.m. after the child was brought to Arnot Ogden Medical Center.

Hopkins was transported to the hospital by his mother’s boyfriend after he was found unresponsive, according to police.

Despite lifesaving measures, the child was pronounced dead.

Hospital staff contacted CPS after observing suspicious injuries on Hopkins and another sibling.

Following an investigation, police determined that Woods caused the fatal injuries to the child.

Woods was arraigned in Chemung County Court and remanded to jail without bail.
