Rhode Island authorities arrest 4 men on various charges

PROVIDENCE — Rhode Island authorities arrested four men Sept. 12 on charges ranging from smuggling contraband into correctional facilities to fraud.

Nicholas Morra, 32, of 130 Carr Street, Providence, was charged with conveyance of unauthorized articles to and from institutions and conspiracy by the Adult Correctional Institutions Investigations Unit.

The arrest resulted from an investigation by the Adult Correctional Institutions Special Investigations Unit and the ACI Investigations Unit.

Morra was arraigned in Third Division District Court, where he was presented as a Superior Court violator and remanded to the ACI.

Kevin Guzman Bernal, 21, of 6550 Yucca Street, Los Angeles, was charged as a fugitive from justice from Massachusetts.

The arrest resulted from an investigation by the Department of Corrections Records and Identification Unit and the ACI Investigations Unit.

Bernal was arraigned in Third Division District Court and remanded to the custody of the Sheriff’s Department pending his return to Massachusetts.

Robert Johnston, 62, of 22 Kenwood Street, Providence, was charged as a fugitive from justice from Connecticut.

Johnston’s arrest also resulted from an investigation by the Department of Corrections Records and Identification Unit and the ACI Investigations Unit.

Johnston was arraigned in Third Division District Court and remanded to the custody of the Sheriff’s Department pending his return to Connecticut.

Christian R. Skawski, 34, of 12 Lincoln Avenue, North Providence, was arrested by the Financial Crimes Unit for obtaining property by false pretenses over $1,500.

The arrest resulted from a Financial Crimes Unit investigation after Skawski turned himself in at State Police Headquarters.

Skawski was processed and transported to Third Division District Court, where he was arraigned and released on $30,000 personal recognizance.
