Utica man charged with robbery after threatening Walmart employee with BB gun

UTICA — Utica Police units were dispatched to the North Utica Walmart on Sept. 9 at approximately 8:50 a.m. regarding a robbery investigation.

It was reported that when Loss Prevention Associates attempted to stop a male from stealing a box of protein shakes, the male pulled what appeared to be handgun, and threatened the Associate with it.

The male continued into the parking lot and left in a vehicle.

Officers were provided with surveillance video showing the male and the vehicle.

Due to the nature of the incident the case was assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division.

Later that evening officers with the Crime Prevention Unit located the suspect vehicle and conducted a stop of it on South St near Steuben St.

The male inside the vehicle was positively identified as the suspect from the earlier robbery, and the proceeds, as well as a BB gun matching the description of the weapon used was also located.

Additionally, a .243 caliber rifle was located within the vehicle also.

The male, George Larkin age 67 of Utica, was transported to the Utica Police Department and at the conclusion of the incident was charged with robbery in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree.
