BRIGHTON — A 67-year-old man died Sept. 9 when his 1973 Chevrolet Corvette struck a garbage truck while attempting to pass on Interstate 590 southbound, according to State Police.
Troopers from SP Rochester and members of the Bureau of Criminal Investigation responded to the crash at approximately 2:52 p.m. in Monroe County.
The Corvette operator was traveling south when he attempted to pass a 2016 International Harvester garbage truck, striking it, police said.
The impact forced the Corvette to the right, where it became wrapped around the front of the garbage truck, causing it to catch fire.
The Corvette operator was pronounced dead at the scene.
The garbage truck driver, Jennifer A. Somora, 43, of Spencerport, and passenger Cristian Prosper Ruiz, 22, of Rochester, were not injured.
No signs of impairment were observed from the garbage truck driver, police said.
The investigation is ongoing.
