Worcester man arrested after police find loaded gun with defaced serial number

WORCESTER — Worcester Police officers arrested a 19-year-old man for illegally carrying a loaded firearm with a defaced serial number on Sept. 8.

At approximately 1:14 p.m., officers on patrol on Main Street observed Geordie Lara reach into his fanny pack and hand something to another man.

Upon noticing the officers, Lara began walking at a high rate of speed while trying to conceal his fanny pack.

Officers stepped out of their cruiser on Shepard Street to speak with Lara when he began running.

He ran through the road, disrupting traffic for drivers.

Officers quickly caught up with Lara and placed him in handcuffs.

Lara told officers he was carrying a weapon in his fanny pack.

A loaded 9mm handgun was recovered from the fanny pack.

Since Lara is 19 years old, he cannot possess a license to carry.

Lara was charged with carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number, possession of ammunition without an FID card, disorderly conduct, and disturbing the peace.
