SPRINGFIELD — Members of the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit arrested 19-year-old Domanyck Nieves on Monday at approximately 1:30 p.m. on the 400 block of Water Street in Indian Orchard.
The arrest involved multiple law enforcement agencies including the Springfield Police Emergency Services Unit, Hampden County Sheriff’s Department, Massachusetts State Police VFAS, United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force and ATF.
FIU detectives had been investigating Nieves for several months and were aware of an active arrest warrant in connection with firearms charges and trafficking cocaine and fentanyl.
Detectives applied for and were granted a search warrant for his home on Water Street.
During the search of the home, detectives recovered 26 rounds of ammunition and firearm accessories.
The warrant stemmed from an incident on Aug. 10 around 7:20 p.m. when Massachusetts State Police troopers conducted a traffic stop on I-91 in Whately.
As the trooper approached the vehicle, the driver, later identified as Nieves, sped away heading south on I-91 at approximately 115 miles per hour while weaving through traffic.
Troopers deployed a tire deflation device in Holyoke and the vehicle eventually stopped in West Springfield.
Nieves and his 16-year-old female passenger attempted to run away.
The juvenile female was taken into custody by troopers assisted by the West Springfield Police and was later released with a criminal summons.
Inside the car, troopers recovered a large capacity firearm loaded with 14 rounds of ammunition, six bags of marijuana, approximately 262 grams of crack-cocaine, approximately 22 grams of fentanyl and other drug paraphernalia.
Nieves faces multiple charges including possession of ammunition without an FID card, possession of a large capacity firearm during the commission of a felony, cocaine trafficking 200+ grams, fentanyl trafficking 10+ grams, and failure to stop for police.
Additional charges include carrying a loaded large capacity firearm on a public way, firearm violation with one prior violent/drug crime, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and speeding.
