MIDDLETOWN — Police arrested a 16-year-old Middletown resident Friday in connection with a shooting that occurred Sept. 3 at 6 West Main Street.
Detectives from the Middletown Police Department, assisted by the Hudson Valley Crime Analysis Center, the FBI Hudson Valley Safe Streets Task Force, and officers from the NYPD’s 33rd and 30th Precincts, traveled to New York City on Sept. 5 to locate the suspect.
Following coordinated surveillance efforts, law enforcement officers observed the individual exiting a building and took him into custody without incident.
The suspect’s identity was not released due to juvenile privacy protections.
He was transported to the Middletown Police Department and booked on one count of attempted murder in the second degree.
The suspect was arraigned Saturday in Youth Part Court at Middletown City Court before City of Newburgh Judge Mohammed.
He was remanded to a juvenile detention facility in lieu of $200,000 cash bail, $400,000 partially secured bond, or $800,000 full bond.
Middletown Police Chief John Ewanciw said the crime shocked the community given the extreme violence and reckless nature of discharging a firearm inside a local business.
“I commend the dedication and professionalism of all officers and detectives involved in this investigation,” Ewanciw said.
“The Middletown Police Department remains committed to ensuring public safety, and we will not tolerate acts of violence within our city.”
The investigation remains ongoing.
