NEWARK — Vermont State Police arrested a 25-year-old man on charges of first-degree aggravated domestic assault and cruelty to a child after a 6-week-old was hospitalized with injuries consistent with abusive trauma.
Thomas Hatfield of Newark was taken into custody following an investigation that began Sept. 6 at 11:48 a.m. when state police received a report from the Vermont Department of Children and Families.
The 6-week-old child had been hospitalized Sept. 5 with concerning injuries.
Police determined that Hatfield physically abused the child on four occasions, resulting in injuries.
The child is currently being treated at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Hatfield was processed and released with conditions that include a 24-hour curfew.
He is scheduled to appear in Caledonia County Superior Court on Sept. 8 at 12:30 p.m.
Vermont State Police does not release the names of victims of domestic violence.
