SENECA FALLS — The Seneca Falls Police Department responded to a false active shooter report at the Hampton Inn on Thursday morning that prompted evacuations and school delays.
Police received the report at about 7:35 a.m. and arrived on scene within two minutes, according to Chief Timothy A. Snyder.
Officers evacuated everyone inside the hotel to a safe location across the street.
Police searched every room and vehicle to ensure the area was secure.
Seneca Falls Schools were placed on “Secure” status as a precaution, and elementary schools began on a two-hour delay.
Police determined the incident was a false alarm caused by a “swatting call,” in which someone makes a fake emergency call to provoke a police response.
No shots were fired and no one was injured, Snyder said.
Detectives are investigating to identify who made the call.
