BOSTON — Two suspects were arrested and a loaded firearm was recovered following an early morning foot pursuit in Roxbury on Saturday.
Officers assigned to District B-2 conducted a subject stop near 22 Wakullah Street at about 1:52 a.m. on Sept. 6.
While on patrol near Wakullah and Dale Streets, officers observed a male wearing dark clothing, a ski mask and carrying a gray backpack.
The suspect, later identified as 20-year-old Chajiani Villanueva of Natick, adjusted his mask and scanned the area upon noticing officers.
Villanueva immediately fled on foot when officers attempted to make contact, running into the rear of 22 Wakullah Street.
Officers pursued Villanueva as he entered the building wearing the backpack and exited moments later without it.
Villanueva then attempted to gain entry to the rear of 24 Wakullah Street, where he was pursued and detained inside.
During the investigation, officers encountered a 16-year-old juvenile male on the third floor who was sweating heavily and breathing rapidly.
Officers observed a gray backpack on the floor nearby.
Inside the bag, they recovered clothing and a Glock 19 Gen 4 firearm with a magazine containing 11 rounds of 9mm ammunition concealed behind cardboard.
Both Villanueva and the juvenile suspect were placed under arrest.
Several other individuals found hiding inside the residence were detained and released after the scene was secured.
Villanueva faces charges including carrying a loaded large capacity firearm, carrying a firearm without a license and unlawful possession of ammunition.
The juvenile faces similar delinquency charges.
Both suspects are expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
