ORANGE — Orange police officers assisted members of the New Haven Regional Auto Theft Task Force on Derby Avenue and Birchwood Drive after a vehicle they had been trying to locate earlier became disabled on Derby Avenue at approximately 2:17 a.m. Sept. 6.
Approximately six occupants fled from the vehicle into the adjoining neighborhood.
Task Force and Orange officers, along with Orange K9 Beaux and his handler, Officer Cavanaugh, were able to quickly locate and apprehend four of the suspects and recover two handguns.
The arrests were handled by the Task Force officers.
It is unknown in what community a collision occurred that caused the disabling damage to the vehicle.
The vehicle had fled from officers in downtown New Haven after the bars had closed but no police pursuit occurred.
