NEW HARTFORD — The New Hartford Police Department investigated multiple single-vehicle collisions over the past three days.
The crashes included a single-vehicle rollover collision on Sessions Road and another single-vehicle rollover crash on Red Hill Road.
A single-vehicle motorcycle crash occurred on State Route 840, resulting in injuries.
The incidents were separate from a fatal collision involving an 88-year-old woman on Tamarack Drive.
Police said some collisions are preventable by paying attention to surroundings, vehicle operation and avoiding distractions.
The department announced increased enforcement near schools as the back-to-school season begins.
Officers advised drivers to slow down in school zones and obey reduced speed limits during school hours.
Police reminded drivers to stop when school bus red lights are flashing and the stop arm is extended.
The department said drivers should never pass a stopped school bus from either direction on divided or undivided roads, including parking areas.
Officers advised avoiding distractions such as texting or calling while driving, especially in neighborhoods and school zones.
Police recommended drivers plan for extra time during morning and afternoon hours near schools due to increased congestion.
The department advised parents to use designated drop-off and pick-up zones and have children exit vehicles curbside rather than into traffic.
