EDMESTON — Two people were arrested Sept. 4 on animal cruelty charges after authorities found several emaciated dogs at their residence.
Christopher S. Romain, 42, was charged with one count of torturing/injuring/failure to provide sustenance to animals.
Kristin M. Natterer, 41, was charged with 11 counts of torturing/injuring/failure to provide sustenance to animals.
Both suspects are from Edmeston.
The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office said the arrests followed an investigation into a report of animal cruelty at a residence in the town of Edmeston.
Deputies said the investigation revealed the defendants were housing numerous dogs at the residence and the dogs appeared to be in emaciated conditions.
Authorities obtained a search warrant through Edmeston Town Court.
Deputies and investigators executed the search warrant at the defendants’ residence where several dogs in various states of emaciation were located.
The dogs were seized and the defendants were taken into custody on violations of the Agriculture and Markets Law.
The defendants were transported to the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office where they were processed and issued appearance tickets returnable to Edmeston Town Court.
All animals found at the residence were turned over to the Susquehanna SPCA where they are receiving medical attention.
The Susquehanna SPCA assisted the sheriff’s office during the investigation.
