CANAAN — A New York man was arrested on a firearm charge after a traffic stop on Interstate 90 on Sept. 1.
At approximately 3:38 p.m., a trooper assigned to State Police Thruway Albany observed a vehicle traveling in violation of the Vehicle and Traffic Law westbound on Interstate 90 in the Town of Canaan.
The trooper requested consent to search the vehicle, which was granted by the driver, Bairon G. Lopez Arevalo, 33, of Woodside, N.Y.
The search resulted in the recovery of a Smith & Wesson handgun and ammunition.
Lopez Arevalo was arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of a Firearm, a class E felony.
Lopez Arevalo was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Canaan Court on Sept. 25 at 6:00 p.m.
