Albany, NY man, dog wounded in shooting near park,

ALBANY — A 65-year-old man was shot while standing inside his home Wednesday night during what police believe was gunfire from a nearby park.

Officers responded to the 500 block of North Pearl Street near North First Street around 9:15 p.m. Sept. 3 for reports of a shooting.

Police found the victim inside his home with a gunshot wound to the upper back.

The man was treated at the scene by Albany fire department and emergency medical personnel before being transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.

Investigators determined the victim heard multiple gunshots coming from the direction of Hackett Park while he was standing inside his home.

Evidence consistent with gunfire was recovered in the park near the rear of the victim’s residence.

A dog on the first floor of the multi-dwelling residence was also struck, sustaining a graze wound from a bullet.

The dog’s owners transported the animal to a veterinarian clinic for treatment.

The investigation remains ongoing.
