WEST HAVEN — A 27-year-old man was arrested on multiple drug charges after ramming police vehicles while attempting to flee officers in the early morning hours of Sept. 3.
Daris Best was taken into custody by the West Haven Police Department Street Crime Unit with assistance from the Patrol Division.
Best had been under investigation since July for the illegal distribution of crack cocaine and fentanyl, which led to three arrest warrants being approved.
During his apprehension, Best attempted to flee in a vehicle and struck multiple marked West Haven police vehicles.
Best eventually exited his vehicle and tried to flee on foot before being apprehended with the assistance of K9 Gamble.
A search of Best and his vehicle yielded 117 small zip-lock bags containing a heroin and fentanyl compound, 42 bags of crack cocaine, 30 white wax folds containing a heroin and fentanyl compound, multiple cell phones and $596.
Best was charged with sale of a narcotic substance, possession of a controlled substance, interfering with police and resisting arrest, first-degree criminal mischief, first-degree reckless endangerment, possession with intent to sell greater than one ounce of heroin, and possession with intent to sell greater than half an ounce of cocaine.
Best, who was on parole for drug-related charges, was remanded into custody by the Department of Corrections.
