WEBSTER — Webster police arrested a convicted felon Friday after discovering an untraceable handgun in his possession during a warrant arrest.

Officer Nicholas Caruso was patrolling East Main Street at approximately 5 p.m. Aug. 29 when he spotted a vehicle with a male passenger he identified as Preston Jackson, who had an outstanding warrant.

Caruso lost sight of the vehicle but later found it at 24 Lincoln St.

Knowing Jackson had previous firearms convictions, Caruso requested backup from other officers.

As Jackson exited the passenger seat holding a backpack and brown paper bag, Caruso informed him of the warrant.

Jackson placed his bag in the rear of the vehicle before being handcuffed and arrested.

A search of the backpack revealed a Polymer 80 handgun with a Glock slide and barrel that had no serial number, commonly called a “ghost gun” because law enforcement cannot trace it.

Police also found a loaded 22-round high-capacity Glock magazine and loose .40 caliber ammunition.

Jackson, 41, of Lincoln Street, Webster, is federally prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition as a convicted felon.

According to his record, Jackson has been charged with 34 previous firearms offenses, with 22 guilty convictions for various firearms-related crimes.

Jackson was charged with warrant violation, possession of a large capacity firearm without a license, possession of a large capacity feeding device without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID card, and possession of a firearm without a permit.

His bail was set at $50,000 and he was arraigned at Dudley District Court on Tuesday, Sept. 2.

Jackson is being held at Worcester County House of Corrections pending a dangerousness hearing.
