LEWISTON — The Lewiston Police Department is warning residents about scammers impersonating officers to collect money over the phone.
Police said they have received numerous reports of the fraudulent calls.
The department said it does not collect fines or bail payments and will never call residents to demand money or payment of any kind.
Officials are advising residents who receive suspicious calls or messages claiming to be from the police department to not provide personal or financial information and to hang up immediately.
