Two arrested by RISP on drug and warrant charges

HOPE VALLEY — Rhode Island State Police made two arrests over the weekend following motor vehicle stops in West Greenwich and East Greenwich, authorities said.

On Saturday, Aug. 30 at 9:15 p.m., troopers arrested Louis Whitehead, 45, of Columbus, Ga., on multiple charges, including manufacturing with intent to deliver a Schedule I-II controlled substance (first offense), resisting legal or illegal arrest, possession of marijuana (more than two ounces), and possession of a Schedule I-V controlled substance (10 grams or less).

The arrest occurred after a traffic stop on Route 95 South in West Greenwich.

Whitehead was transported to the Hope Valley Barracks, processed, arraigned as a bail violator, and later taken to the Adult Correctional Institute-Men’s Intake, pending further arraignment at Third District Division Court.

On Sunday, Aug. 31 at 3:52 a.m., troopers arrested Robert Gencarella, 27, of Greene, for three outstanding warrants.

The warrants included a Superior Court full bench warrant for failure to appear for arraignment on the original charge of possession of a Schedule I-V controlled substance (out of the West Warwick Police Department), an Office of the Courts warrant for failure to appear for pre-trial conference on a charge of driving with a suspended or revoked license (out of the Coventry Police Department), and an Office of the Courts bench warrant for failure to appear for arraignment on a charge of driving with a suspended license (also out of the Coventry Police Department).

Gencarella’s arrest was the result of a motor vehicle stop on New London Turnpike in East Greenwich.

He was transported to the Hope Valley Barracks, processed, and then turned over to the Adult Correctional Institute-Men’s Intake.
