WILLIMANTIC — Detectives from the Willimantic Police Department closed an investigation into an alleged stabbing incident that occurred Feb. 23 after bail enforcement personnel brought Jonathan Figueroa to the police department Wednesday morning on two unrelated warrants.
Figueroa, 34, was arrested at approximately 10 a.m. on charges related to the February incident that occurred around 4 a.m. on West Avenue.
Police said Figueroa, along with two other men, approached the victim and engaged him in a verbal altercation that night.
The confrontation escalated into a physical fight involving three against one, during which Figueroa allegedly stabbed the victim, according to police.
The victim sustained minor facial injuries and a puncture wound to the back right shoulder.
After a thorough investigation, detectives identified all individuals involved, including the primary suspect.
Figueroa was charged with assault in the second degree and held on a $25,000 cash or surety bond for the February stabbing incident.
He was also charged with failure to appear in the first degree and held on a $350,000 cash or surety bond.
Additionally, Figueroa faces a charge of failure to appear in the second degree and is held on a $50,000 cash or surety bond.
Figueroa is scheduled to appear in Danielson Superior Court on Thursday.
