Somerville police report 5 assaults, breaking and entering arrest over 5-day period

SOMERVILLE — Somerville Police responded to five separate assault incidents between Aug. 19 and Aug. 24, including attacks involving a brick, soup package and garden hose.

On Aug. 24 at approximately 11:46 a.m., officers were flagged down on Allen Street by a reporting party who stated his son was playing in a park next to the community garden when a female sprayed the child with a hose.

The previous day at approximately 2:28 a.m., police responded to Davis Square for a past assault where the victim told officers a female assaulted him with a brick.

On Aug. 22 at approximately 2:55 p.m., officers responded to College Avenue for a past assault where the victim said he was walking on the sidewalk and moved a bike that was blocking his path when a juvenile male began attacking him.

The victim in that incident suffered injuries to his lip.

On Aug. 20 at approximately 4:44 p.m., police responded to a business on Mystic Avenue for a report of juveniles causing disturbances, where an employee said a juvenile male threw a package of soup at him.

Officers identified the juvenile suspect in that case.

On Aug. 19 at approximately 8:44 p.m., police responded to Broadway for an assault report where the victim said he was walking on Alewife Brook Parkway when a male approached and punched him in the face.

Police also made one arrest on Aug. 22 at approximately 2:58 a.m. after responding to a business on Bow Street for a breaking and entering report.

Officers observed two males inside the business and placed one under arrest.

Other crimes reported during the period included two motor vehicle vandalisms, eight car breaks, three package thefts, five bike thefts and one motorcycle theft.
