Monroe crash leaves one dead after car veers off State Route 17

MONROE — Troopers from State Police Monroe responded at approximately 12:54 p.m. on Aug. 28 to a report of a single-vehicle collision on State Route 17 in the area of Exit 130A.

A preliminary investigation determined that a 2011 Mazda, traveling westbound, was seen by witnesses abruptly departing the right lane and briefly entering the left lane.

The vehicle then swerved back to the right, re-entered the right lane, and subsequently left the roadway.

The car continued off the shoulder into a wooded area, striking multiple trees before coming to a stop along the northbound shoulder.

The driver and sole occupant was identified as Robert S. Ihne, 70, of Chester.

Ihne was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
