MALTA — State Police responded to multiple vehicle crashes on the northbound lanes of Interstate 87 at about 11:08 p.m. Aug. 27.
The investigation determined that a northbound vehicle struck an unoccupied delineator truck parked on the right shoulder between exits 11 and 12.
The work zone was not active at the time of the crash.
The driver sustained serious injuries during the crash and was transported to Albany Medical Center where they remain in critical condition.
Following the initial crash, multiple northbound vehicles struck debris causing two additional crashes.
No injuries were reported during those secondary collisions.
All northbound lanes of I-87 were closed between exits 11 and 12 for the ongoing investigation and collision reconstruction.
The lanes were reopened at approximately 5:30 a.m.
